Bengaluru is set to host Berlin’s first business liaison office in India, and its third worldwide, following New York and Beijing. This initiative, part of a formal declaration of intent between the State of Berlin and the Government of Karnataka, aims to strengthen international start-up and innovation ties.

Karnataka’s Minister for IT, Biotechnology, and Electronics, Priyank Kharge, announced that the partnership, under Karnataka’s Global Innovation Alliance, will foster start-up exchanges, provide soft-landing support for entrepreneurs, and build joint capacities in advanced technology and research. The collaboration will concentrate on high-growth sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, FinTech, Life Sciences, and Digitalization, areas where both cities are recognized globally.

A joint steering committee will be established to institutionalize the partnership, track progress, co-create programs, and ensure outcome-based delivery. Franziska Giffey, Berlin’s Mayor and Senator for Economic Affairs, who led a 25-member trade delegation to Bengaluru and Delhi, confirmed Berlin’s plan to establish a formal business representation in the Karnataka capital, positioning Bengaluru as a key partner for Germany in South Asia.

The delegation, which included prominent leaders like Stefan Franzke, CEO of Berlin Partner for Business and Technology, and Jeannine Koch, head of medianet berlinbrandenburg eV, visited key institutions in Bengaluru, including Infosys, RV College of Engineering, and IIM Bangalore, and engaged with industry bodies like NASSCOM.

Karnataka to Launch Quantum Action Plan to Become Global Quantum Technology Hub by 2035

Karnataka is set to launch a comprehensive “Quantum Action Plan” aimed at establishing the state as a global hub for quantum technologies. The state aims to develop a quantum advantage-driven economy worth USD 20 billion by 2035, focusing on research, manufacturing, education, and industry support.

Key points include:

– The Quantum India Bengaluru Summit is scheduled for July 31 and August 1, 2025, marking a significant event to promote quantum tech in the region.

– Karnataka aims to leverage its existing strong technology infrastructure and academic ecosystem, including partnerships with IISc and land allocation for a Quantum Research Park.

– The government plans to offer extensive support like land, infrastructure, and incentives to startups and researchers in quantum technology.

– Skill development and ecosystem building will be prioritized to ensure Karnataka leads in the quantum revolution.

– The state intends to integrate quantum technology for social sectors like healthcare and education to improve infrastructure and access.

This move positions Karnataka ahead of other states, like Andhra Pradesh, which is developing its own quantum valley innovation hub. Karnataka’s focus is on owning technology, intellectual property, and production, rather than just service centers. The government is committed to framing policies and facilitating industry needs to capture the emerging quantum economy opportunity.
